Zakynthos (Zante) is bigger than it looks, and there’s no airport bus, so a little planning makes arrival day painless. Here’s how to get from the airport to your resort and around the island.
From the airport
Zakynthos Airport (ZTH) sits just a few kilometres south of Zakynthos Town. When you land, your options are:
- Taxi from the rank outside arrivals — fine for short hops, though queues build when several flights land together.
- Pre-booked private transfer — a driver meets you with a name sign at a fixed price, helps with your luggage, and can fit the whole family with child seats on request. No queue, no surprises.
There’s no public bus from the airport itself, so for groups, families or late arrivals a pre-booked transfer is usually the easiest choice.

Getting around the island
- KTEL buses connect Zakynthos Town with the bigger resorts, but they’re infrequent and all route through the town — workable for a day trip, less so with luggage.
- Car or scooter hire is popular and gives you freedom to reach remote spots like the Shipwreck viewpoint and Keri.
- Private transfers and day tours take the driving (and the parking) off your hands — handy for the long run up to the north-west.
Ferries
Zakynthos connects to the mainland by ferry between Zakynthos port and Kyllini (Peloponnese). If you’re island-hopping or arriving by road, that’s the usual crossing.
